The CARVER Mindset: How to Think Like a Spy
In the world of espionage, there are those who play offense and collect intelligence and those who play defense, seeking those who are collecting intelligence against us. As such, thinking like a spy is often more of an art than science. The CARVER Mindset is a CIA process of thinking, that has been around since World War II, and helps intelligence officers confront both strategic and tactical challenges.

It quantifies difficult situations so that a person may engage in more logical – yet street smart – decision making. It introduces basic “tradecraft” skills… those unique (Jason Bourne-like) split second reactions, which could make the difference between winning and losing, or even living and dying. This is an engaging, fast-paced, and fun lecture that forces audience members to look at their everyday lives much differently.
What you will learn:
• How to problem solve like a spy
• How to recognize denial, deception, and misdirection
• How to defend against elicitation and manipulation
• How to better prepare yourself for a crisis
• How to recognize surveillance
Counter-Espionage for Business Travelers
Each business day, some 35,000 executives, scientists, consultants, and lawyers pass through the nation’s airports to destinations across the globe. They carry, along with proprietary documents and computer files, the latest in personal electronic gear. Their goal is to further interests, improve their bottom line, engage in transactions with foreign partners, and maintain their competitive advantage.

On the other side, carefully watching most of those travelers, beginning the moment they arrive at the airport – and often sooner – are uncounted numbers of espionage operatives. These individuals work for foreign intelligence services and economic concerns. They, too, are pursuing a goal: to separate international business travelers from their trade secrets.
To succeed, they use many time-tested techniques to lure unsuspecting travelers into vulnerability or compromising positions. They also employ the latest electronic means to steal business information – often at a distance from their prey. Sound far-fetched? You have probably been in their crosshairs before (or even right now) and you didn’t even know it. According to the FBI, economic espionage costs American businesses close to $700 billion per year in stolen intellectual property. In this lecture, Luke teaches business travelers how to protect themselves and their valuable IP.

Cognizant Security Strategy: A Comprehensive Workshop to Determine Strategic Direction
Cognizant Security Strategy (CSS) is a fresh approach to the antiquated security methods no longer useful to organizations in a post-pandemic world. Security departments have erroneously functioned in a reactionary –rather than proactive – role for decades. Much like a combat mission or intelligence operation, security strategy needs to be organic. Decisions are based upon the fluidity of the threat environment and the on-the-ground realities involved.

As conditions change (whether that means an escalation or de-escalation of a crisis) the organization - and subsequent teams responsible - must dictate the pace and direction of the event. They cannot be spectators, and they must breakout of the mindset that they are solely operating in a responder role. At the same time, managers must resiste the temptation to micromanage tactical situations rather than providing direction from the strategic level. CSS is meant to help you quickly decipher your security posture and provide an actionable roapmap for how your organization makes decisions about security to determine strategic direction in a dangerous world.
What you will learn:
- How to analyze your security posture and preparedness
- How to enhance your decision-making skills
- Understand the difference between strategic and tactical thinking
- Develop an actionable roadmap for making decisions about security
- Take a preemptive approach to prevent threats
